Ten common problems and solutions for touch switches

2022-01-05

Tact switches are commonly used components in many electrical appliances, and various problems often occur during use. If these problems can be better solved, it will play a better role in the use of tact switches.

The touch switch is a widely used switch, and it is impossible to leave it in the current electronic industry, especially the consumption of consumer products is very large. This type of switch is widely used in: computers, stereos, earphones, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, listening machines, telephones, toys, lamps, fax machines, printers, medical equipment, smart watches, smart wearable devices, laser pointers, mice, keyboards , Induction cooker, TV, DVD, bread maker, electric oven, household equipment and other electronic products.

1: Touch the switch feel problem?

Many customers have been responding, and the samples sent by many suppliers feel very consistent, but the feel is different when it comes to mass production. In fact, this problem is very common. We all know that the touch of the switch and the button force are controlled by the shrapnel. We often say that shrapnel is divided into phosphor bronze shrapnel and stainless steel shrapnel. At present, many manufacturers choose phosphor bronze shrapnel in order to save costs. Phosphor bronze shrapnel is more cost-effective, which is why it is widely used. However, the phosphor bronze shrapnel will change after the furnace temperature, and the shrinkage will be more serious, which will lead to a bad hand feeling. The use of stainless steel shrapnel does not have this problem, but the cost of stainless steel shrapnel is relatively high, leading many manufacturers to take risks to choose phosphor bronze shrapnel, so be sure to ask this question when buying a tact switch.

2: Tap the switch and tap the non-conduction problem?

Many consumers often find that when the button is pressed and pressed, it will not respond when using the product. It takes a lot of force to press, and the product will have a functional response. Because our switches are used when exposed to the air, many finished products are not hermetically sealed, and consumer electronic products require heat dissipation. In humid weather, the shrapnel of the switch is easily oxidized, and the contact performance after oxidation is not as good as before, that is, there is a problem of light pressing and non-conduction. Many consumers also disassembled the switch and found that there is a small black spot on the shrapnel. This small black spot is the effect of the oxidation of the shrapnel. Therefore, it is recommended that the electronic products that we do not use usually should be placed in a relatively dry place, and the prepaid electronic parts are oxidized.

3: The resistance value of the touch switch is too high?

At present, many customers are not very familiar with the resistance value of the switch. Generally, our switch resistance is controlled below 30m ohms, so that the contact performance and life of the switch are very good, but some switches have passed the furnace temperature and life test. The resistance value is high. What effect will the high resistance have on the switch? If the resistance is high, it means that the contact area between the shrapnel of the switch and the PIN pin is too small, and the small contact area will cause the switch to not touch. Once it does not touch the switch, it will be bad. Therefore, everyone should be cautious about the resistance of the switch. The shrapnel and PIN pin have relatively high requirements for electroplating, and the resistance value will be lower if the electroplating is good. After the switch has passed the life test, the surface of the shrapnel will be worn out. If the plating is thin, the resistance value will be high and the switch will be defective.

4: Problem with blistering at the touch of a switch?

The main material of this switch is our LCP material. Every time our material supplier receives materials, we will have a process before injection molding on the machine. This process is to dry our plastic materials, which is what the industry says Of quenching. So what is the main purpose of quenching? The purpose of quenching is to dry our plastic material itself with moisture and moisture, and use our plastic material to achieve a drying effect. After quenching, our next step is our injection molding process, and then our products will be assembled, inspected and packaged for shipment.

After so many processes, why does our tact switch bubbling abnormally after the furnace? Let’s take a look at the photo on our left. The blistering of our switch is quite serious. In fact, the problem is that It is also very simple. Our SMD process will produce high temperature. The LCP material itself is a high-temperature resistant product, and it is also a material that is very compatible with the SMD process. The problem lies in our first process quenching, and our plastic materials are in progress. When quenching, if the material is not completely dried, our plastic material will carry a certain amount of damp water in it to be carried out to the next process. It is difficult for us to find that it will foam without high temperature operation. Yes, so we will have a PCB experiment in the inspection step.
